A walking oral tradition
The Hans Herr House uses live volunteer guides to narrate and educate visitors as they tour the house. Guides learn interesting facts about the house and Colonial life in America and share that knowledge with visitors.

Guides are provided with literature to read as well as an orientation about the 1719 Hans Herr House and grounds.  Costumes are optional.

Speaking of costumes
Do you have a hankering to dress up in 18th century clothing and talk about colonial life to schoolchildren and adults alike? Feel a thrill when you read about reenactments? Wish that you could try out for the cast of “Colonial House?"

You’re not alone! We can get you started on the road to historical interpretation with our library and files and expert advise on material, patterns, and supplies, and may even dress you from the Museum wardrobe. All guides are trained in interpretive technique, and provided with on-the-job experience.
